IAQ Assessment

AIR QUALITY CONCERNS

Occupants of in a newly designed office building had a concern of poor air quality. The employees within the offices were having symptoms of various illnesses and there was a concern it was related to the air quality in their office space. The clients goal was to identify any indoor air quality (IAQ) hazards and for A-Tech to recommend corrective actions, if applicable.

SIMPLE SOLUTIONS

An IAQ assessment was conducted which included; NIOSH sampling for respirable particulate dust, Mold Air sampling, a screen of GASTEC Direct Read Tube IAQ tests including, Formaldehyde, Ozone, Carbon Monoxide, Carbon Dioxide, Hydrocarbons, Nitric Oxide and Nitric Dioxide. Based on the findings A-Tech recommended that the returns and registers be adequately spaced in the office area to provide proper air circulation in the built environment. A-Tech also identified that in the air handler supplying the office area, the carbon filters had been removed and immediate replacement was recommended. After corrective actions were completed based on A-Tech’s recommendations, A-Tech conducted an additional collection of IAQ samples and all tested levels were found to be within California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) occupational exposure standards. With the improved quality of air the occupants were no longer experiencing adverse health symptoms and were back to their normal productivity. Providing a safe and healthy work environment is what we do. We are A-Tech, your reliable answer to environmental questions.
